Recently my two adult daughters have both use one of the many auto insurance quote comparison companies to try to find the best auto insurance rates possible.  Due to irresponsible and illegal drivers crashing into my daughters' vehicles and totaling them (100% not my daughters' faults), my insurance company of many years (Ahem, Allstate) cancelled our policy unless our daughters were dropped off of our policy.  Yes, both daughters's cars were totaled months apart by drivers whose insurance companies claimed they were not insured at the time and that is all that was on our insurance, uninsured motorists claims.  So we resorted to using an auto insurance quote comparison company like Progressive to try to find an affordable insurance company for our family (yep, our family 'cause I was not going to stay with a company that would do that to its loyal customers!).
